Inzaghi: ‘Lazio lack conviction’

Simone Inzaghi admits Inter “deserved” the 3-0 victory this evening and feels Lazio “lack conviction” against big clubs.

Mauro Icardi scored twice around a Marcelo Brozovic strike at the Stadio Olimpico.

“We stayed in the game and created the chances to score, but cannot afford to concede the opener in that way,” said the Coach in his Press conference.

“After the first goal, we tried to react. We have to do better and I admit we deserved to lose this evening.”

It seemed to be a step backwards from their meeting here in May, when Inter fought back to win 3-2 and poach the final Champions League spot.

Lucas Leiva was out injured and his replacement Milan Badelj went off with a muscular problem during the first half.

“Undoubtedly, that’s a big loss and Badelj added to it. Having said that, Inter are a superior team right now. Last season we went to San Siro with real character and fought hard, while on May 20 we were superior until the final 20 minutes.

“Leiva’s absence mustn’t be used as an alibi.”

Lazio have not picked up a single point against the top teams in Serie A this season, losing to Napoli, Juventus, Roma and Inter.

“Against the big clubs, perhaps Lazio lack the conviction we have in other matches. It’s also a matter of being up against a side that has Samir Handanovic in goal and can afford to keep Keita Balde Diao on the bench. These teams are built to win titles.

“Now we want to get right back on track against SPAL.”
